Former Minister of Information Communication Technology and Cyber Security Supa Mandiwanzira has become the latest high ranking official to be cleared of criminal charges.

Mandiwanzira who was facing charges of criminal abuse of office following a case in which he allegedly handpicked South African company, Megawatt Energy, to audit and investigate a controversial US$218 NetOne tender which had been signed by former NetOne CEO Reward Kangai.
Mandiwanzira had denied the charges alleging that all he had done had been with the express authorisation of former president Robert Mugabe.

Today High Court judge Justice Nicholas Mathonsi cleared Mandiwanzira of any wrongdoing and dismissed the charges against him.
Zimbabweans have termed the term “Catch & Release” to reflect a scenario where government officials want to appear to be doing something against corruption which results in them arresting high ranking officials. However, these high ranking officials never get convicted.
